How to Add an Administrator to WordPress
A separate WordPress user lets us manage the website work included in your project while you continue to use your own login.
Before you start
Sign in with an account that can add users. Use the invitation email in your onboarding checklist. For development, plugins or technical maintenance, use Administrator when requested. For content-only work, we may request Editor.
Choose the instructions that match your setup. WordPress hosted with another provider and WordPress.com can use different invitation screens.
For WordPress hosted with another provider
- Open your website’s WordPress dashboard using your normal admin login.
- Go to Users and choose Add New User or Add New.
- Enter the username provided in your checklist, or an unused descriptive username such as dmc-team, and our invitation email.
- Select the requested role. Leave the new-user notification enabled so WordPress sends the account setup email.
- Save the new user. Check Users to confirm that the account and role are listed.
For WordPress.com
- Open the correct site in your WordPress.com dashboard.
- Open Users and choose the option to add or invite a user.
- Enter our invitation email and select the requested role. If offered, mark the user as an external collaborator.
- Send the invitation. We will accept it using our own account.
If you cannot add a user
You may be signed in with a role that cannot manage users. Ask the site owner or current administrator to send the invitation. If the account already exists, check its role before creating another one.
Let us know when you are finished
After you send the invitation or add our account, tell us which account you shared. We will check the permissions and confirm that access is working.
